It’s time to celebrate everything that we love about our furry friends! National Pet Month is our favourite time to commemorate the relationships that we have with our pets.  At Crock A Doodle we love celebrating National Pet Month with lots of paw prints, personalized food dishes and lots of adorable pet pieces.

It’s fun to capture pawprints of your fur-babies – and we are here to help! Since most celebrating of National Pet Month will occur at home this year, we thought we would offer a “How To” for getting the perfect paw print on our pieces!

• Make sure that the paw is clean, and ideally nails have been trimmed
• Push back hair/fur from the pads of the paws as best as possible
• Holding the leg near the paw, quickly paint the pads of one paw. It’s important to cover the pad with a generous amount of paint, but not too much that it will slide around the piece.  Any dripping or pooling of paint is an indication that there is too much.
• Press the paw onto the piece, holding it in place for 2-3 seconds by pressing gently on the top of the paw.

*If you are using a flat piece (ie a tile or a plate) it’s best to put the piece on the ground and let your animal be in a standing position.  If you are putting a print on a mug, treat canister, etc, it’s easiest to have a helper. Have one person assist with holding the pottery while the other helps to keep your animal still and calm.

*Did Fido move while you were trying to capture his print? Don’t stress! Simply wipe the piece clean with water and start again!
